After all, not many people have the tenacity to turn around a congregation of 30 people with several hundred thousand dollars of debt. Yet that's what he and God did 17 years ago at Hillvue Heights Church, and today Hillvue baptizes nearly 500 new believers per year and touches thousands of others thanks to the power that Jesus has to change people's lives and the infectious, intense passion that Steve and the church have for Jesus. Steve's sermons radiate good ol' boy country humor interspersed with this intensity and message of hope. He speaks plainly, challenging the traditional notions in ways that sometimes make the local southern baptists nervous. After all, how many churches have dedicated parking for motorcyclists, or a history of sponsoring a race car ministry at the track? Certainly not many.
